What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a lot like daydreaming, when you daydream you alter your state of consciousness.
Daydreaming is a perfectly normal, safe and healthy phenomenon that we all engage in from time to time. hypnosis is a technique that enables you to achieve this altered state of consciousness, deliberately.
The difference is that in hypnosis, your mind is directed to a specific goal like, weight loss or stopping smoking, phobias, self confidence, driving test nerves, exam nerves, the list of uses is endless.
Traditionally therapeutic change typically involves a step by step accumulation of small steps over time. Change tends to be difficult, but with hypnosis people at times can take a giant leap forward.
They can develop a profound insight or create a deeper understanding of themselves. They transcend their past and become a new person, they can jump ahead of themselves into a complete new future, they can do all this and more in one brief monumental moment.
Everyone naturally enters hypnosis countless times every day without realising it. This is known as the hypnoidal state, or trance state. These states are induced naturally, like when we are engrossed in a good book, or when we are on the edge of our seat watching a thrilling movie or listening to music.
Driving is a classic example.
How often, when your driving along, do you find yourself in a world of you own, lost in your own thoughts whilst your subconscious mind is driving the car for you, without any conscious thought to how you are doing it at all.
